I moved to Stanton in 1944 and Elmore Johnson was the preacher at the downtown Church of Christ, and he was a teacher at Stanton High School when my wife and I graduated there in 1948. Through the years we have been blessed by not only knowing him but other members of his family.

We pray that his transition to his reward has been a blessing to his family as we continue to believe that his sweet wife will soon join him. Praise God for Elmore Johnson.

Wonderful service for a wonderful man. I remember one of Ellmore's last sermons when he told about a man asking him of all the studies, education and ministry experiences over his years, what's the one thing he would share with others if given only one thing to say? His response was "Jesus loves me this I know, for the bible tells me so." So simple, yet profound. God bless Marie and the rest of the family.

🥀 Words can’t express the heartfelt comfort I pray for you as you are left to travel this unwanted road. Yet the peace of knowing He is where we long to be is a great comfort. The world continues to become less as great men leave, yet may the people he inspired and taught and touched carry on spreading God’s light and love. Knowing the stories of how much his family has inspired so many lives is inspiring. I loved how the last time I saw and spoke to him he knew where Stanton was and may not have remembered our names, but asked my husband, Kendall, if he was still standing in HIS pulpit! Made me smile! Great made with a wonderful wife I admire and kids to be proud of and relatives I’m glad to be influenced by. Heaven awaits us all!💞

Elmore officiated my parents wedding in 1950. My mother knew them long before thathe and she loved them both dearly. Growing up we always knew about Elmore and Marie and heard lots of stories. Both my parents are gone now and hearing of Elmore's passing, brings sadness. He made a difference in this world. But also a joy, as all I can think is what a reunion they must be having! My deepest condolences to Marie, his children, to all who knew and loved him. You know where he is. Keeping you all in my prayers and God Bless.

We are very sorry for your loss and at the same time feel blessed to have had the influence of Ellmore and Marie Johnson all of our lives. They married our Godly parents (Kay and Margaret Robinson) in 1950, who then proceeded to have 13 of us. Ellmore and Marie were legend around our house. They'd known Mother (Margaret Robinson since she was 13; I believe she watched some of Marie and Ellmore's children and worked in her flower / gift shop). It always seemed the high regard was apparent all the way around and rightfully so. Our parents have passed. I am so grateful to have been able to visit Ellmore and Marie last year. We love them both. Prayers for Marie and all the family. (1/12/2020)
