Mary Leyva of Slaton passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the age of 81. She was born October 6, 1938 in Coleman, Texas to Guadalupe and Consuelo (Rendon) Ruiz. Mary spent several years in Nebraska where she worked as a substitute teacher. When returning to West Texas, she made her home in Slaton where she worked at the Slaton Care Center. Mary had a passion of tenderly caring for the elderly as a home health care provider. She loved growing flowers and working in the garden. She was a dedicated Jehovah Witness.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children whom she loved very much, Marc Leyva of San Antonio, Daniel Leyva of Slaton, David Leyva of San Antonio, Epimenio Leyva of Slaton, Demetrio Jimenez of Slaton, Julia Jimenez of Austin, Margarita DeLeon of Slaton, Rosalinda Jimenez of Austin, Jesse Jimenez of Lubbock, and Ramiro Jimenez of Lubbock; siblings, Josie Valdez of Ft. Worth, Jesse Ruiz of Buffalo, Texas, Lupe Ruiz of Slaton, Tony Ruiz of Lubbock, and Teresa Guerra of Slaton. One of Mary’s greatest joys was being a Grandma to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Oscar Jimenez; and siblings, Manuela Arguello, Pablo Ruiz, Benito Ruiz, Pedro Ruiz, Sarah Gonzalez, and Steve Ruiz.
