Elena Montemayor Del Toro, 57, of Schertz, Texas passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 in Schertz at her residence. Elena was born on December 23, 1962 in Hereford, Texas to Armando G. Del Toro, Jr. and Angelita “Helen” Montemayor. She was raised in Tahoka, Texas and graduated from Tahoka High School in 1981. She gained her Associates Degree in Sociology from South Plains college in 1984. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from West Texas State University in Canyon in 1988. She had lived in Amarillo and Lubbock and had worked as a social worker in the field for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. She then moved to Austin and served as a Supervisor, retiring in 2018. She had also worked as a shift supervisor for the U.S. Treasury Department. She enjoyed going on cruises, going to casinos, playing bingo and collecting and decorating her home with rustic and southwest items. She loved her poodle dog, Rossi, who traveled with her everywhere. She was known to be very passionate, confident, loved dancing, loved helping people make a difference and was Catholic. She was preceded in death by her mother, Angelita “Helen” Montemayor Del Toro in 2002 and stepbrother, Dorian Puente, in 2018.
Elena is survived by her father, Armando G. Del Toro, Jr. and wife, Diana, of Lubbock, brother, Marcus A. Del Toro and wife, Margaret, of Lubbock, stepsister, Naomi Campos and husband, Carlos, of Hobbs, New Mexico, stepbrother, Don Puente of Lubbock, nieces, Abby Del Toro, Sabrina Rafter, Eryn Puente, nephews, Jacob Del Toro and wife, Amanda, Jared Del Toro and wife, Carly, Eric Puente, Isaiaias Puente, Michael Schmidt, Garrett Schmidt, Max Schmidt, and Noah Puente, and great niece, Emilia “Millie” Del Toro.
Due to COVID restrictions, face masks and social distancing will be required. Mass will be celebrated by the family only at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1120 52nd Street, in Lubbock. Interment will follow in the Tahoka Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 – 8 PM on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, in Lubbock and Rosary services will be recited at 6 PM at the Venue on Broadway.
