Mike McWilliams, 64, of Lubbock passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 in Lubbock. Mike was born on March 10, 1956 in Clovis, New Mexico to Leo Huston McWilliams and Wanda Nell Parker McWilliams. He was raised in Lubbock and attended Lubbock Monterey High School. He was drafted and faithfully served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Ester Martinez on April 1, 1978 in Lubbock. He had worked for the Lubbock Fire Department for two years and for the Lubbock Avalanche Journal in the printing department for many years. They lived in El Paso from 1992 – 1998, where they owned and operated Student Bookstore of El Paso, and then returned to Lubbock. He enjoyed motorcycles, outdoors, camping, and fishing. He was known at “The Guardian and Grandpa” in his neighborhood. He was a hero, guardian, friend to all, and always helping others. He was a jokester, loved to have fun, and was always dependable. He enjoyed working on cars, tinkering on many things, and was a jack of all trades. He had coached and sponsored little league baseball teams, while he was in El Paso. He was a Christian and loved by everyone, never met a stranger, and was best friends to anyone.

Mike is survived by his wife, Ester McWilliams of Lubbock, 3 children, Michael McWilliams of Lubbock, Steven McWilliams and wife, Crystal, of Pierce City, Missouri, and Veronica York and husband, Lee, of Lubbock, 2 sisters, Catherine Bridges and husband, Glenn, of Lubbock and Karen Hoffarth and husband, Emil, of Lubbock, and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Combest Family Funeral Homes in Lubbock. Family directed memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 7777 Barn Venue, 414 North FM 1729, in Lubbock. Due to COVID restrictions, face masks and social distancing will be required. Please visit for more information.
