Jacqueline “Jackie” Penkert (Shetter) passed away on April 15, 2021 at the age of 83 surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness. Jackie was born October 23, 1937 in Fort Worth, Texas to Jesse Henry and Joshie Katie (Shropshire) Shetter. Jackie grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Northside High School in 1955. She received her bachelor’s degree in Business Education from North Texas State College in 1959. Jackie met her life love J.C. “Pinky” Penkert on a double date at Lubbock’s Lindsey Theater on April 16, 1954. After J.C. returned from military service, they married on July 31, 1959 in Fort Worth. The next day they moved to Lubbock to start their life together. Jackie worked at Lubbock Independent School District for almost 30 years in several roles with her last being the assistant to the athletic director. Jackie was a member of Memorial Baptist Church for 38 years until it closed. She and J.C. served in many capacities and treasured the events, fellowships, and their life there. Jackie enjoyed Southcrest Baptist until unable to attend. Jackie enjoyed teaching Sunday School, craft shows, garage sales, family events, making lists, decorating the church for special occasions, being with J.C. and home. J.C. passed in 2008. He was her forever handsome farm boy from Robertson and she missed him every day.
Jackie is survived by sons, Mike (Beverly) of Hurst, TX, and Greg (Sheri) of Lubbock; her grandchildren, Avery, Brenna, Katie, Corban, Caleb; and added grandchildren, Garrett and Shelby Howell; her great-grandchildren, Braelyn and Jace; Jackie’s brother, Jesse Henry Shetter Jr. (Diane) of Fort Worth survives her; as well as her sister-in-law, Eldera Coulter of Moore, OK; and her dear sisters-in-Christ, Beverly Fagan and LaQuitta Perry.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 23 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Services will be on Saturday, April 24 at 2:00 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery.
