Joann Edwards Alexander, 87, of Levelland passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 in Olton. She was born September 1, 1926 in Tahoka. Mrs. Alexander was residing at Runningwater Draw Care Center in Olton at the time of her death.

Mrs. Alexander received her Associates Degree from Tarleton State University and her Bachelors from North Texas State University in Denton. She spent her childhood in Tahoka and then, at age 23, married F. Joab Alexander and settled to raise a family in Levelland. Mrs. Alexander was a member of First Baptist Church in Levelland since 1959. Unwavering in her faith in Jesus she fought fiercely for what she believed in.

She is survived by her four children, Kris Ellen King (Lew), Terri Ann Hassenmiller (Jim), Kathryn Alexander (John), and Joab Edward Alexander; grandchildren, Marcus Alexander McDermett and Keelee Laine Campos; great-grandchildren, Mayzie Jayde Alexander, Dorian Brodie Campos, and Tiara DeLyone Campos; brother, Jerry Edwards (Barbara) of Oregon; and sister-in-law, Lorena Garver of New Mexico. Mrs. Alexander also leaves behind five nieces and two nephews, Barbara, Norman, Grace, Michael, Linda, Sammy, and Nancy.

Preceding Mrs. Alexander in death were her parents, Marcus and Nettie Edwards of Tahoka; husband, F. Joab Alexander of Levelland; brothers, Homan, Wells, and Billy; and grandchildren, Jon Eric Hensley of Levelland and Whitney Brook Bivin of Benton, Arkansas.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Combest Family Funeral Homes. Services will be private.

Extending condolences to Joann's family. We attended first baptist in Levelland and enjoyed visiting with joann. When our son Matthew was raising funds for a mission trip to Brazil, Joann was one of the first to donate. She loved to talk about her Mayzie Ministry and gave us a little spoon with card attached. She was a beautiful lady who made a positive difference in this world. She will be missed.

My Mother was like no other. She left me with an appreciation for life and all that can exist. Love her and will miss her unconditional love. There will be no other....except maybe Mayzie!

I am so sorry to hear another cousin has crossed over. I had not talked to Joan in a few years, but always felt with her in West Texas there was still a connection to the area. She was a vital, loving, giving person. I know after she is greeted by Christ, my mother will be in line to give her "sugars". My prayers are with you all at this time. My Love, Zenda (daughter of Irma)
