Gaither Garrett Vanderveer, Sr. of Idalou departed this life on August 12, 2010 at the age of 97. He was born January 26, 1913 in Trail, OK to the late George Franklin and Nettie Mae (Warden) Vanderveer. He married Verna Phillips July 12, 1985 in Lubbock. He worked at the Children's Home of Lubbock as a grounds keeper for many years. He was a member of the Parkway Drive Church of Christ in Lubbock.

Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Cleta Cavender of Ft. Worth; one step-daughter, Laurel Laraque of Aurora, CO; two sons, Lelan Vanderveer of Ft. Worth, Gaither G. Vanderveer, Jr. of Muskogee, OK; one step-son, Neil Fulfer of Idalou, two brothers, Lindell of Ft. Worth and Audry of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Vanderveer is preceded in death by his first wife of over 50 years, Thelma Vanderveer.

The family will greet friends at White Funeral Home in Lubbock on Friday, August 13th, 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 14th, 2010 at White Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Lubbock. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 15th at the Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell, OK.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Children's Home of Lubbock, 4404 Idalou Road, Lubbock, TX 79403.

I was saddened to read of Garretts passing.I lived in OK and neighbors to the family in the 1930's and attended Salem school with his brothers & sister. I see that Audry & Lindell are all that remain of his family. I am the last survivor of mine. I have a lot of fond memories of those days. My deepest sympathy to the family
