Beverly Jean (Downs) Moody, 86 of Lubbock, Texas. Beverly’s life began in Chickasha, OK on November 18, 1933. The only child born to Stuart and Alleen Downs. Beverly passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Beverly graduated from Chickasha High School in 1951, where she was a cheerleader and tennis player. Beverly married Darrell Keith Moody of Rush Spring, OK on December 22, 1951.
Together they lived in six states and in one foreign country as Darrell was pursuing his career in Engineering and Construction. Their family of two daughters and one son brought them seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Beverly was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Before the illness that eventually took her life, she was a fascinating and truly unique individual. She slept so little knowing there was more to be done. She fit many hours into the day and was always hard at work as a mother, wife and friend. She was magically beautiful, kind to a fault and gently, but fierce in knowing and fulfilling her responsibilities to her Lord and family. She had an incredible desire to help others and she lived her life with an unflagging commitment to her Lord and family. While raising her family, she found time to have a photography business, be a girl scout leader, as well as have a rich and creative life. She was always a very active member of the Church of Christ wherever they lived.
Until Beverly lost the ability to control her mind, she never complained about her terrible disease and realized she needed to go first. She did not dread death. Darrell says that Beverly was the light of his life, his best friend and constant companion for more than 68 years. He thanks God constantly for giving him Beverly, and for the promise of eternal union. There may not be an earthly love anywhere greater than her love for her husband and family.
Surviving her are her husband of 68 years, Darrell; daughters, Darra Lansman and husband Gary of Lubbock, TX, Marta Jividen and husband Steve of Charlotte, TN. Seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Randall Stuart.
The family thanks Hospice of Lubbock for their kindness and caring during Beverly’s long illness.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
