James “Butch” Houston King, 70, of Wolfforth, TX went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2020. Butch was born on November 11, 1950 to John and Louise (Mason) King in Quitman, MS. Butch moved to Texas in 1976 where he met the love of his life, Linda (Sherley) King. They married on September 19, 1980 in Littlefield, TX where they raised their two children, Jonathan and Whitney. Butch worked for American Cotton Growers for 36 years, retiring April of 2013 as a weave room superintendent. He was a wonderful Pepaw, and an amazing husband who loved doing sweet things for Linda. He enjoyed fishing, working in the yard and spending his time caring for and giving to others. He will always be remembered for the love he expressed to anyone he met.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Linda; children, Jonathan King and wife Kristin of Richardson, TX, Whitney Zubriate and husband Eric of Levelland, TX; three grandchildren, Tristin King, Collins King, and Hayzlie Zubriate; siblings, Marsha Phillips and Randy King both of Stonewall, MS. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Cathy Phillips of Argyle, TX, Peggy Demel and husband Billy of Lubbock, TX; nieces Tammy, Toni, Tori, Missy, Lori, Casey, and Ashley; and nephew Denny.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise King, and Jack and Addie Ruth Sherley; and brothers-in-law Tyson Phillips and Dennis Phillips.

A private family memorial service will be held at Combest Family Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Linda and family, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of Butch. I really never got to know Butch that well, but every time I saw him, he was always smiling. I know just from our short visits he was deeply devoted to his family and his face would especially glow when he talked about his grandkids. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time and if we can do anything, please let us know.

Love Ricky, Carla and Mikayla

“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” “
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:21-24‬

I’m so very sorry for the loss of Butch. While I didn’t get the opportunity to get to know him as well as I would have liked; I do know how big his heart was from the many stories I was told. Not only was his smile contagious but his love he shared for Linda was very genuine. The King family is in my thoughts any prayers. May God be with you during this difficult time.

To our dearest and best friends I want to express how
much our friendship has meant the world to us. It is a
natural and relaxing-lasting friendship that has always
been there, but the past few years have been amazing
and special. It is like we were attached at the hip and had
the same ideas and interests. We all love the yard work
and outdoors. Butch and Kendon treated us gals like
Princesses and we sure love the attention. We shared a
love like they did for our grandkids. If the grandkids were
In need of us; all stopped and eyes were on them. Our
fondest memory will be the many evenings we set out in
front of each other’s houses on the golf carts and talked
for hours. Most of it was laughter!!! God has been so good
to us and blessed us beyond measure and he continues
to each and everyday. Butch was very special to many
people and kids loved him so much! Thanks Butch and
Linda for everything and just being you. The world knew
you loved and adored each other. What a legacy to leave
for your family and lead by example of giving and loving
beyond measure. Love, Mrs. Jackie
