Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend, Florence Mae Beard Owen went to be with our Lord and Savior at the age of 91 on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

Florence entered this world February 7, 1929 in Cochran County, Texas at her parent’s farmhouse. More than anything, Florence wanted an education. She worked hard to obtain her high school diploma in Morton, Texas and her Associates in Business from the New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Florence married Henry J. Owen May 17, 1947 and they traveled the country with a Seismic company for many years. Florence had a deep love and passion for family. Florence and Henry adopted their first child Kelly in 1965, then their second child Kista in 1968. They settled in Dumas, Texas to raise their family. A hard worker all her life, Florence sometimes had multiple jobs to help provide for the family. That is one thing her children admired about her, was she taught them to work hard whatever circumstance life handed you.

Florence loved the Lord with all her heart and was a devout Christian that made sure she and her family were in church every time the doors were open. Being active in church was one of her treasurers. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. One of the greatest accomplishments was showing and teaching her children and grandchildren to love the Lord. Over the years she openly read her bible to them and was dedicated to devotional time. Florence always wanted to make sure everyone had an opportunity to find and receive salvation. She drove or flew wherever to share God’s word and lead family and friends to Christ. She was a true servant of the Lord.

Florence enjoyed playing cards and board games while being surrounded by her family. She enjoyed going to the park, eating ice cream, watching the ducks, and talking about Jesus and heaven. During her last days here on earth, she had such an amazing, graceful peace. Her testimony is “I’m ready to go home to be with the Lord and fall at his feet and worship Him!”

Florence was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Samuel Beard and Minnie Trapp-Beard, and eight siblings.

She is survived by her children, Kista L. Owen, Kelly M. Owen Armijo and husband Anthony; grandchildren, Kirstie Armijo, Joshua Martinez and wife Byanca; great-grandchildren, Xander, Emrynn, Kellan, Kaylin, and Keagan (Charley) Armijo; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2020 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Celebration of life services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God in Morton with burial to follow at Morton Cemetery.

I knew Mrs. Owen through my dear friend Kelly. While I didn’t spend a significant amount of time with her, I did have the pleasure of spending a couple of Thanksgiving with her. I found Mrs. Owen to be an independent lady even at an advanced age. She clearly loved her family and was devoted to the Lotd. I wish I had the opportunity to have known her in her younger years as I believe she was a person I could have learned from. Mrs. Owen was a force to be reckoned with and a formidable woman. She was deeply loved by her family. I wish her family peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Our heart and prayers go out to Kelly and her family. Mom was an eccentric woman. She is home now. May God hold you and continue to bless you Kelly.
