  • Guestbook
Frances Marie (Simpson) Johnson, 97, of Lubbock passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021. She was born October 27, 1923 in Graham, Texas to the late Azey and Annie (Rhoades) Simpson. Marie married Ellmore Johnson on August 25, 1942 and together they shared 77 years of marriage before his passing in 2020.

During her youth she and her sisters performed as the Simpson Sisters in Texas.

Following graduation from high school and marriage, Marie went on to become, in her words, a preacher’s wife and a business woman. She owned two flower shops, a dress and beauty shop, was a licensed realtor in both California and Texas, where she owned and operated her own successful real estate office. She loved to travel. She and Ellmore went on several mission trips. She was a member of Quaker Avenue Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish her memory are three sons, Alfred Johnson (Janet), James Johnson (Lesa) and Timothy Johnson (Darla); son-in-law, Kent Hawley (Diana); 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and loved ones.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Ellmore Johnson; daughter, Leta Hawley; grandson, Brett Hawley, parents Azey and Annie Simpson and sisters, Myrtle Fore, Bert Nelson and Addie Mae Burgess.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be sent to the Quaker Avenue Mission Fund or to Carillon.

Visitation will be held at 9 AM on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Quaker Avenue Church of Christ with Services for Marie at 10 AM and interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Those attending indoor service are requested to wear a face covering.

Alfred, James & Timothy, we are so thankful for the wonderful friendship shared with your family spanning many years. Your parents were wonderful Christian role models for thousands of us and ministered to so many in their long and fruitful lives. We know you miss your dad and now your mother as well. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers as you say your earthly "goodbyes" next week.
