Mitch Matt Mattson of Lubbock passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the age of 67. He was born January 8, 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Robert and Lois (Slone) Mattson. At a young age the family moved to San Antonio where he grew up. After graduation, Mitch was drafted into the United States Air Force where he became a surgical technician and continued in that field after his four years of service. In 1991, he moved to Lubbock where he worked at University Medical Center as a buyer for the operating room. He was a member of First United Methodist Church

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 19 years, Debbie; children, Nikoah Thornton and husband Brian of Abu Dhabi, Tasha Perkins and husband Chase of Lubbock, and Capri Jackson and wife Alicia of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren, Kai and Jude Thornton and Chyane and Jasmine Coalson; sister, Michelle Ziche and husband Bill of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews, Ryan (Alyssa) Ziche and their daughter Addison, Allison (Ben) Bartels and their son Lucas, and Austin (Laura) Ziche. Mitch also leaves behind his five furry babies.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings.

A going away part for Mitch will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021 at their home. You can message Debbie for her address and any details. You are welcome to come and go or come and stay. The family will provide brisket and rinks, please bring side(s) or desserts. Come celebrate his life! By the way: you will be greeted and loved by their 5 sweet furry babies (dogs).

My deepest heart felt emotion flows out to you Deb! I am grateful for the blessings and memories I have got to experience knowing Mitch! His demeanor was of love and goodness and that just flowed from him and how awesome to have been able to experience his life!
My prayers continue to go out, he will be sincerely missed!

Oh Debbie. I remember many years
of friendship. How sad to lose Mitch after such a long hard fight.

Such a wonderful nephew. Mitch, was kind and gentle as a young child. Always there for you no matter what the situation. I just wish we had been able to get together would have loved to have seen him.

I will always have fond memories of Mitch, he was such a kind man. I remember being at work and seeing Debbie go from I like to I love. Mitch was a light in her life! I will miss his smile,humor, and his warm welcoming personality.
