Melba Jean Thomas, 86, formerly of Tahoka, and a resident of Lubbock since 2007, was called home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 while at home surrounded by her loving children.
Mrs. Thomas was born at home, in Garza County, Texas, on January 3, 1935 to the late C. W. Roberts and Lois (Thompson) Roberts.
She was rescued by her soulmate Frank R. Thomas, and they married on February 14, 1951 in Grassland, Texas. Mr. Thomas preceded her in death on July 21, 2007.
Melba served as the first Administrator of the Lynn County Nursing Home in the early 1960’s, while heavily involved with her husband and family in their farming interests. She was instrumental in the 911 mapping for Lynn County. She selflessly tackled any task put before her with vigor. She enjoyed painting, arts/crafts, quilting, sewing, knitting. She was a dress maker and had a talent for baking wedding and anniversary cakes. Family was always first to Melba and this was a pivotal point in that she served as a caregiver and cared for her sister, Deanie, until her death. She attended Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Those left to mourn her loss include one son, Chan Thomas and wife Jamie of Ransom Canyon; one daughter, Inola Mello and husband Rob of Lubbock; one sister, Nedra Stice of Midlothian; one brother, Waymouth Roberts of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Cale Mello and his wife Sara of Lubbock, Cady Mello of Houston, Lee Thomas of College Station and Laci Thomas of Ransom Canyon, and one great-grandchild, Chance Thomas of Ransom Canyon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, her brother, Carlos Wade, and her sister Myrna (Deanie) Bingham.
