Sandra Mathers, 59, of Lubbock, passed away on Thursday evening, July 8, 2021, at University Medical Center.
Ms. Mathers was born in Laredo, Webb County, Texas on August 5, 1961, to Olivia (Garcia) Herrera and the late Arturo Herrera.
Sandra met Leon Mathers, and they were married on March 31, 1994, in El Paso, Texas, and out of this union was born a beautiful daughter, Brianna.
She grew up in Laredo and attended public schools there, graduating from Martin High School in 1979. After high school, Sandra attended Laredo Junior College and studied business, graduating with an Associates Degree in 1982. She worked as a bank teller for years and after moving to Lubbock, she worked for Wal-Mart for 19 years and was the manager of the jewelry department prior to semi-retiring in 2017.
Sandra enjoyed lively conversation, was the shining light of the party and being a people-oriented person. She loved to cook, collect and sell jewelry, with butterfly jewelry being her all time favorite. Sandra was brought up in the Catholic faith.
Surviving Sandra include her husband; one daughter, Brianna Mathers of Lubbock; her mother, Olivia Herrera of Laredo; one brother, Chris Herrera of Laredo; two sisters, Gilda Benavides and Olivia Velasquez, both of Laredo. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Rogelio Herrera.
Visitation for Ms. Mathers will be Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 3:00 P. M. to 8:00 P. M. at Combest Family Funeral Homes, with Recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 P. M. with Ms. Carmen Spolar reciting. Cremation will follow under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
