Connie Z. Ortega, 71 of Lubbock passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021, surrounded by family. She was born December 9, 1949, to Claudio Zapata, Sr. and Maria Alafa in Tahoka, Texas. Connie married Gilbert Ortega January 3, 1974, in Lubbock and together they raised three children. She was a believer in the Lord and was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Edward Ortega and wife April, Valerie Nava and husband Rene, Andrew Ortega and wife Carrie; siblings, Benita Samarripas, Eva Rivera, Sally Cruz, Gloria Valerio, Erma Sanchez, Josie Pena, Diana Bengoa, Sam Valerio, Pete Valerio, Adam Valerio, Juan Zapata; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; his son, Timothy Ortega; her mother, Maria Alafa; stepdad, Eustacio Valerio; father, Claudio Zapata, Sr.; brother, Claudio Zapata, Jr.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 15, 2021, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Friday, July 16, 2021, starting at 3:00 p.m. with a special speaker at 5:00 p.m., at Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Services will be Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.

My condolences to the Valerio, Zapata and Ortega Family. I remember her laugh and the jokes she and her and my dad Claudio use to have when she would visit us. She was always happy and always had a smile She is now with her heavenly family who are are waiting for her with open arms. May she rest in peace.
