Jimmy Ray Gafford of Lubbock passed to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at the age of 86.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Sylvia (Roy) Gafford; son, Tim Gafford and wife Belinda of Lubbock; grandchildren, Wayne Barado and wife Shelly and Lauren Gafford, all of Lubbock; four great grandchildren, Brooks Barado, Bristol Barado, Chance Roberts, and Veda McDonald.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Gayle Gafford, whom they lost in a car accident several years ago.

Jimmy grew up in West Texas and was the son of cotton farmer, T.E. and Lucille Gafford. He went to Lubbock High School and played on two State Championship football teams, 1952 and 1953. He was voted MVP of the 1953 team as a lineman, and an All-American in High School Redshirted by Oklahoma. He went on to play at San Angelo State and East Texas State where he obtained his Master’s degree in Education.

After college, Jimmy coached football before going to work with the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. He later worked in the mission field in South Korea and Hong Kong bringing bibles into mainland China before becoming a counselor at Trinity Church. Jimmy had many accomplishments in life - His main love was for his family and God!
