Earl Pat Githens, 80, of Brownwood, Texas, passed on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Pat was born on March 27, 1941 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Earl and Ella “Cecile” Githens. Pat grew up in Chickasha, Oklahoma and Case Grande, Arizona. He joined the Air Force after graduating High School in 1959 and served seven years. In 1968 he was saved at an Easter service in Big Spring and then attended Arlington Baptist Seminary. He was ordained as a Baptist Preacher in 1971 and began his ministerial career that only ended with his death. He pastored churches in Texas from Brownwood (his first church), Snyder, Big Spring, Lamesa, Lubbock and other towns across the state. Pat accomplished a lifelong dream of completing his Doctorate Degree in Theology in 2017.

Despite living in Texas for the better part of 60 years, with the exception of Texas Tech basketball, Pat remained an unapologetic Oklahoma Sooner fan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Greg Githens and wife Violet, Rodney Githens and wife Leanne, Rebekah “Becky” Githens Davis and husband Mike, Eric Githens and wife Jessica, Roddy Oaks and wife Mary, Brandon Oaks and wife Tonya, and Chrystal Stratton; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Charles Githens, Lloyd Githens, Angie McCrea, and Erma Joe Burgress. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Carolyn Kiser Githens in 2003, Elaine Richter Githens in 2006 and Shirley Napper Githens in 2018.

Visitation will be 1:30-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Lubbock. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Crestview Baptist Church in Lamesa with Rev. Ben Phipps officiating. A time of fellowship to share stories will be held following the service in the Fellowship Hall.

This wonderful man is a huge reason I became a Christian. I enjoyed his sermons. He knew how to make people smile. God is getting another one of his children but we are all losing an amazing person!
