Oreta Fern “Sis” Foreman Adams was born to the late Tillie Louise Taack Foreman and Walter Fletcher Foreman on Monday, the 7th day of December 1925. Sis was born at home on the family farm that her parents purchased in 1918 east of Idalou.

Sis played basketball for the Idalou Wildcats, and she graduated from Idalou High School. She then attended Texas Women’s University in Denton.

Sis married Billy Butler “Bill” Adams on June 20, 1946 in Lubbock. Sis and Bill farmed south of Ralls, with many busy, happy and active years. After his death on July 22, 1979, Sis continued to farm until her death on Friday, the 12th day of November, 2021 in her 95th year. She was a longtime member of the Ralls First United Methodist Church and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Lubbock Chapter 44 DAV.

Also preceding Sis in death were her 4 brothers and their wives: Ed and Catherine Foreman, Bud and Fay Foreman, W. F. “Wink” and Lonnie Foreman and Malcolm and Ruby Foreman.

Sis is survived by her twins, Chris and Christie Adams, both of Lubbock as well as her 2 grandchildren, Jeremy Ladd and Haley Ball (and husband Ricky), and great-grandchildren Ian, Andrew, Madelyn, Lauryn, Aubrey and Raider.

Sis will lie in state at the Ralls First United Methodist Church from noon to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2021, and from 9:00 a.m. to service time on Friday, November 19, 2021.

The Service of Remembrance for Sis Adams will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 19th, 2021 at Ralls First United Methodist Church.

Officiants at her service will be The Rev. Judy Shema, First United Methodist Church of Slaton; The Rev. Ann Akin, Associate Pastor of St. John United Methodist Church of Lubbock; and The Rev. Elizabeth Abraham, of Hospice of Lubbock. Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Loyd Arthur, Chad Harris, James Jester, Jimmy Moore, Cotton Moore, Zane Reese, Brent Reese and Matthew Reynolds.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Forrest Griffin, Ken McCool, Jim McDuff and H. W. Mullins.

Contributions in Sis’s memory may be directed to one’s charity of choice.

To God be the glory.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Sis Adams, but one thing I know for sure: she parented the kindest, most caring man I've ever known. Losing a beloved parent is traumatizing. However, I am reassured by something that Albert Schweitzer once wrote: "Until he extends his circle of compassion to include all living things, man will not himself find peace." If Schweitzer is correct, Chris will undoubtedly find peace. To Chris and all his family, you are in my thoughts and in my heart.
