Marty then became a Deputy Sheriff with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, serving in that capacity from 1999 until his retirement on May 31, 2020.

Marty loved to hunt and fish, roping, farming and ranching. He loved his family, all animals and supported the Haven Animal Care Shelter faithfully. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Slaton.

I worked with Marty at the Sheriff's Department. He was a special guy. I adored his sweetness and always willing to help. I'll miss his blushing at silly things. I know you are with God because you were one of his Angels. God bless your family. You will be missed.

Mitzi, thank you for allowing me the honor to care for Marty. I absolutely loved his sense of humor. God chose you for his last days so that his wishes would be honored and his dignity maintained. You may not feel strong enough right now but inside of you resides God's love and strength. You can survive with with grace. You have family, friends and community that love you and that will help you-rely on them, rely God. You are in my heart and in my prayers. -Julie
