John Merton Weaver

John Merton Weaver, 89, of Lubbock and formerly of Flushing, Michigan passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020 in Lubbock. John was born on November 4, 1930 in Flint, Michigan and graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1948. He had worked for Buick Motor Division in Flint, and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served from November 1949 to February 1953 as a Sergeant and tank mechanic in the Korean War, where he was involved in the assault and seizure of Inchon, capturing and securing of Seoul, fought in the epic Battle of Chosin Reservoir, and participated in operations against enemy forces in South and Central Korea. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Marilyn Faye Anderson in 1954 in Flint. He retired in 1992 as a floor supervisor after 42 years dedicated to Fisher Body-Ternstedt, a division of General Motors in Flint. He was an avid golfer that played around the Flint area and enjoyed the 19th hole with his golfing buddies. He was the favorite uncle of his nieces and nephews, a loving grandfather to his 4 grandchildren and will be remembered for his humor, friendliness, and storytelling. He was a lover of all animals and cared for the many strays that would find him. He is a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Clio, Michigan.
John is survived by his 2 sons, Justin Weaver and wife, Carmen, of Lubbock, Texas and John W. Weaver of Huntersville, North Carolina, 3 grandchildren, Madison Luscombe and husband, Courtland, of Lubbock, Natalie Weaver of Burbank, California, and Sutton Weaver of Lubbock, and 2 great grandchildren, Sawyer and Rio Luscombe of Lubbock. John was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, on March 2, 2001, grandson, John James Weaver, sister, Onalee Jewell, and half-brother, Carl Irish.
