Obituary

Dajuana Nelson of Childress, Texas, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the age of 63, following a brief battle with metastatic liver cancer, a recurrence of breast cancer she had previously fought with courage and strength. She was born April 4, 1963, to Bueal and Rose Davis.

Dajuana married the love of her life, Todd Nelson, on April 18, 1987, in Childress, Texas. Together, they shared more than 39 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories. Dajuana worked as a teacher’s assistant until her retirement and was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Tell, Texas.

Dajuana had a heart full of love and a passion for life. She enjoyed traveling, seeking new adventures, and spending time with those she loved. Above all, her greatest joy was her four grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Nonna.” There was nothing she wouldn’t do for them.

Known for her generosity, creativity, and caring spirit, Dajuana loved cooking for family and friends, always preparing enough food to feed an army. She was talented in painting, sewing, and crafting, especially making handmade blankets and gifts for others. Her love for animals led her to volunteer with animal rescues, transporting dogs and helping them find loving homes.

Dajuana had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. Her kindness, adventurous spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family will be deeply missed. While her family grieves this unexpected loss, they find comfort in God’s promises and the hope of being reunited with her one day.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Todd Nelson of Childress; her children, Jennifer Galyean and husband Alfred of Midland, Jessica Whitesides of Ropesville, and Jo-Turk Nelson of Abilene; four grandchildren, Tenlea, Parker, Pax, and Everlyy; and her siblings, Tommy Davis and wife Lyndie, and Rhonda Nabors and husband Eugene, along with extended family and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bueal and Rose Davis; and her son-in-law, Zane Whitesides.

Memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Southside Baptist Church.
