During his early childhood, the family moved to Lubbock, where David grew up and graduated from Monterey High School. He went on to attend Texas Tech University.

David dedicated many years of his professional life to working as an Asset Protection Manager for Walmart. Outside of work, David enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid chess and was a loyal sports fan, he loved cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and supporting Texas Tech athletics. He also had a great appreciation for music, especially the timeless songs of The Beatles. Above all, David treasured time spent with his family cooking out and camping.

Those left to cherish his memory are his seven children, Sean Huntsman and wife Cassie of Kingwood, Angelia Huntsman of Lubbock, Jessica Tenczar and husband Larry of Lubbock, Domanique McNeal and wife Megan of Boerne, Jeramy Huntsman of Lubbock, Leland Huntsman of Lubbock, and Joshua Huntsman of Lubbock; 15 grandchildren, Zoei and husband Graham, Cordell, Kendyn, Addilyn, Star and husband Brady, Landyn, Lillian, Charles, Samuel, Ellie, Asher, Harper, Cora, Miriam, and Jaden; one great granddaughter on the way; and his brother, Darrell Huntsman of Lubbock.

David also shared a special and enduring bond with his former wife of 33 years. Although their marriage had ended, their friendship never did. They remained close companions, and David always considered her his best friend. Their relationship was a testament to the lasting love, friendship, and respect they shared throughout the years.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Elizabeth Huntsman; two sisters, Donna and Debra; sister-in-law, Melinda; and his beloved grandson, Leland Shay.
