Gabriela G. Valdez, lovingly known as “Ama,” 96, departed this life on October 3, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas.
Gabriela was born on March 23, 1930, in San Marcos, Texas, to Luz and Dominga Garcia. She was a loving, warm-hearted woman who was truly one of a kind. Gabriela cherished spending time with her family, whether she was cooking, listening to music, or singing along to her favorite songs.
Taking care of her family was what she cherished most and held close to her heart. She found great joy in being surrounded by those she loved and was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Gabriela also had a love for fashion and always made sure she had her lipstick, nail polish, and favorite hats.
Gabriela was a faithful member of Colgate Church of Christ, where she loved serving God. Her faith and devotion were an important part of her life and legacy.
Those left to cherish and mourn her memory include her four sons, Juan Valdez, Lucio Valdez, Ben Valdez, and Alejandro Valdez; four daughters, Elida Ramirez (Manuel), Josie Belgara (Joe), Rose Mary Valdez, and Estella Sanchez (LeeRoy); one sister, Rufugia; many nieces and nephews; 30 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luz and Dominga Garcia; her husband, Jose Valdez; three sons, Alfredo, Joe Jr., and Antonio Valdez; one daughter, Gloria Ann Valdez; and two grandsons, David and Joseph Valdez.
Gabriela will be lovingly remembered for her warmth, her devotion to her family, her faith, and the love she so freely gave to those around her. Her memory will live on through the many generations of family she leaves behind.
