With a heavy heart, I share the passing of my beloved father, George Fuentes, who died peacefully at home in Lubbock, Texas, on June 12, 2026, with me by his side.
Born on July 19, 1956, in Brownfield, Texas, Dad was a man whose spirit and warmth touched everyone who knew him. He retired from Frenship ISD as a maintenance worker on January 15, 2021, and celebrated with a surprise party that reflected how much he was valued and appreciated.
He was more than his career; he was a kind-hearted man, always ready to help a neighbor, share a laugh, tell a story, or brighten someone's day with his humor. His stubbornness was balanced by his protective love for me, his daughter, and by an accepting spirit that welcomed all.
One of Dad’s greatest joys was spending time with me. I cherish memories of building a playhouse together, camping in the RV while making s’mores, and fishing trips where I learned to put worms on hooks. Those moments are treasures I will carry with me forever.
He loved grilling with neighbors after work and sharing stories over the fence at sunset. Decorating for Christmas—with lights, a large outdoor tree, and plenty of laughter—was a family tradition filled with love. We even turned tumbleweeds into buffalo, a perfect example of his creativity and fun-loving nature.
Dad enjoyed riding his lawn mower, fixing things that weren't quite broken yet, cheering for the Texas Longhorns and Green Bay Packers, traveling, and teaching me to read maps. In doing so, he guided me not only on roads but through life itself. His pride in me and unwavering support meant everything.
Beyond being my dad, he deeply cherished his family: my mother, Norma Fuentes, the love of his life and best friend; my husband, Michael Reyes; his sisters, Ninfa, Andrea, Erlinda, and Mary; his beloved dog, Nala; and his granddogs, Scout, Ember, Kali, and Luna.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Adelina Reynero Fuentes and Tolentino Fuentes, whose legacy he carried forward through his love, strength, and devotion to family.
His faith in God was a guiding force throughout his life, shaping the grace, kindness, and compassion he shared with others.
We will honor George with a visitation on July 7, 2026, at Combest Family Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed immediately by a funeral service until 4:00 p.m. This will be a time to share stories, tears, and memories of the extraordinary man he was.
Though he is gone, his spirit endures through the stories he told, the love he shared, and the lessons he taught. I am forever grateful and honored to call him Dad—my guide, protector, and best friend.
Rest peacefully, Dad. You will always live in my heart and in the hearts of all who loved you.
