George Wesley Reese of Lubbock passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the age of 85, leaving behind a life defined by faith, family, service, and an unmistakable love for people.

George never met a stranger. He loved being surrounded by people and could, as his family fondly says, “talk to a fence post.” His outgoing personality and genuine interest in others made conversation come easily, and he found joy wherever people gathered. At a young age, George learned to play dominoes, beginning a lifelong love of games, friendly competition, laughter, and fellowship.

George married Beverly Crockett in 1963, recently celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary. Early in their marriage, George worked as a teacher, bus driver, coach, and superintendent for Lipan Independent School District. He later entered the management training program with Sears, a career move that eventually took George and Beverly to El Paso, where he helped operate the family business, Selle Insulation. George discovered that he had a natural gift for sales and became an excellent salesman, building relationships through the same warmth and personality that characterized every part of his life.

While George took pride in his work, his faith and family were at the center of everything he did. Church was an important part of his life, and he faithfully served as a deacon at various congregations before becoming an elder at Sunset Church of Christ, where he served for many years.

George didn't simply speak about his faith—he lived it and taught it within his home. He taught his children to love and to love well. He shared the Gospel with them, instilled a strong work ethic, and showed them the importance of serving others. He and Beverly created a home where their family felt safe, supported, and deeply loved; and, strangers became family through shared meals and talking about Jesus.

He also taught his kids to approach life with hope and optimism. George had a way of finding the opportunity for fun in almost any situation, and that fun-loving spirit became one of the many gifts he passed along to the generations that followed him.

Few things brought George greater joy than being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He took tremendous pride in his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, with a ninth great-grandchild already on the way—ready to inherit a little of George's fun-loving spirit.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Crockett Reese; three children, Jeff Reese and wife Brenda of Lubbock, Marcy Smith and husband Glen of Stevensville, Montana, and Stacy Reese of Eagle River, Alaska; brother, Arthur Reese and wife Carol of Abilene; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a ninth great-grandchild on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Ina Lee Reese, and his brother, Robert Reese.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2026, in the East Foyer of Sunset Church of Christ. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Sunset Church of Christ.
