Harrison (Rip) Wilson Rhodes went to be with the Lord on June 17th, 2026 at the age of 94.
He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, JoAnn Rhodes.
Rip served during the Korean War in the Army Airborne Division. He was honored to of been selected to fly to Washington D.C. with other veterans of foreign wars, called “Honor Flights” in his 80’s. Rip graduated from the University of Texas and enjoyed a long career in business and government.
The Rhodes lived in Austin most of their life and settled their roots in Oak Hill. He was avid fisherman who loved taking his boat down to the coast and fishing with his brother and sons every summer; this became known as the “Rhodes Family Vacation” for many years. Rip was a devoted husband and father; along with JoAnn, raised their family in the Catholic faith and became one of the first founding families who started St. Catherine’s of Siena in Austin.
Rip is survived by his son, Harrison Wilson Rhodes Jr. (Michele), daughter Anne Marie Rhodes, grandson Bradley Higdon, stepson Jerry Bell (Peggy), stepson Ricky Bell (Vicki), niece Sharon Rhodes, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery where he will be joined with his wife.
