Obituary

With deep love and comforting assurance, we announce that Heather Renee Simpson went home to be with the Lord on June 30, 2026, in Lubbock at the age of 49. After fighting a long, courageous fight against cancer, she is finally free from pain. Though our hearts miss her, we find profound peace knowing she is rejoicing in her heavenly home.

Heather was born on May 19, 1977, in El Paso to J.A. Simpson, Jr. and Nancy Simpson. From an early age, Heather possessed a kind heart, a caring spirit, and a deep love for the people around her—qualities that would define both her life and her career.

Heather graduated from Sweetwater High School before pursuing higher education with determination and purpose. She earned bachelor's degrees from Abilene Christian University and Wayland Baptist University and later completed her master's degree at Lubbock Christian University.

Her passion for helping others led her to a career dedicated to serving children and families. Heather worked for seven years as an Early Childhood Intervention Specialist in Plainview, where she made a lasting impact on countless children and their parents. She later devoted eleven years to hospice social work, compassionately caring for patients and families through some of life's most difficult moments while serving with Accolade Hospice, Accent Care Hospice, and Legacy of Love Hospice. Caring for others was not simply her profession—it was who she was.

Above all else, Heather loved her family. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved, creating memories that will be cherished forever. She also had a special place in her heart for dogs, especially schnauzers, who brought her endless joy and companionship over the years.

Heather leaves behind to cherish her memory her mother, Nancy Simpson; her brother, Kevin Simpson and wife Jessica; her nephew, Hunter Simpson and wife Danielle; her niece, Megan Bednarz and husband Kotton, along with their daughters, Ellie Mae and Olivia Lane; her uncle, Michael Brantley and wife Anita; and her cousin, April Degnan, who was more like a sister to Heather, along with April's husband, Tommy. Heather also shared a special bond with their daughter, Marcella, whom she lovingly referred to as her "adopted niece."

She is also survived by extended family members Robert and Joyce Roecker, Mark and Jennifer Finkner, Landry Finkner, Kody Finkner, and many other beloved relatives and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and generosity.

Heather was preceded in death by her father, J.A. Simpson, Jr.

Heather's gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
