Obituary

Jerel J. "Jerry" Hoff, passed away on June 18, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. His life was marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, Christ as his Savior, and a genuine love for people.

Born on September 8, 1947, in Valley City, North Dakota, Jerry spent his early years in Montana, where he graduated from high school and excelled in wrestling, football, and basketball. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army in 1965 and proudly served in Vietnam with the Artillery Special Weapons Unit. One of his many awards received was the Sharpshooter Medal in Rifle. His exemplary military service culminated in an honorable discharge in 1968 at the rank of E-5 Sergeant, an emblem of his leadership and discipline.

On November 30, 1968, Jerry married Linda Williams in Clovis, New Mexico, beginning nearly 58 years of devoted partnership. Together, they raised their three children before moving to Lubbock, Texas, in 1994. A farmer by trade, Jerry spent many years working for the Case Company in Clovis and Lubbock before retiring from the Texas Department of Transportation.

Above all else, Jerry was most proud of being “Pops,” a name he carried with immense pride and love.

To know Pops was to know an honest, wise, hard-working, kindhearted man with a quick wit and a playful sense of humor. He never met a stranger; by the end of a conversation, you were a friend and often left with a new nickname. He loved people, laughter, helping others, and being there whenever someone needed him. Pops was also an engineer of many things, enjoyed restoring classic cars, customizing motorcycles, and refurbishing antique toys for his grandchildren. His passion for life on two wheels led him to ride with the High Plains Drifters, the Red Raider Rough Riders, and the Brotherhood of Christian Riders. In recent years, he especially cherished riding alongside his grandson, Weston.

He participated in four 10-day cross-country journeys with Run for the Wall, an organization dedicated to promoting healing among veterans and their families. One of his proudest honors was placing a wreath at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during one of those rides. He also took great pride in serving as a Patriot Guard Rider.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Hoff; his children, Douglas Hoff of Lubbock and Syndi Hart and her husband, Ryan, of Amarillo; his grandchildren, Xandria, Chance, and Weston; and his great-grandchildren, Margaux, Brexton, Arlo, and Sophia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Florence (Roberg) Hoff; his son, Justin Hoff; and his sisters, Jackie Goroski and Diane Hoff.

The family will receive friends and family from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway Street, Lubbock. A military graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at West Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 4614 E. 50th Street, Lubbock.
