Jerry Don New, 80, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior late Tuesday evening, surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born on July 26, 1946, in Gorman, Eastland County, Texas, to the late Harland and Mae Nell (Gaines) New. He attended Kermit High School and graduated in 1965. He furthered his education at Odessa College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Electronics.

Jerry dedicated 40 years of his life to working as an automation technician. He spent 30 years with Amoco Production, including 26 years in Odessa, Texas, and 4 years in Lafayette, Louisiana. He then spent the final 10 years of his career with Oxy, working out of the Denver City office, where he served as an automation foreman. Jerry took great pride in his work and in the many friendships he made throughout his career.

Outside of work, Jerry loved people and enjoyed being involved in his community. He was a member of the Caprock Classic Car Club and several other social clubs in Lubbock. He was blessed with many wonderful friends and his loyal dog Frito whom he cherished dearly. Jerry also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years, finding great joy in helping others and giving back to his community.

Jerry will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, love of people, and the friendships he made throughout his life. He had a way of making people feel welcome and valued, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Watson, and his parents, Harland and Mae Nell New.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Amy Roundtree and husband, Kevin, of Midland, Texas, and Selena Overholt and husband, Dave, of Riverton, Utah; his son, Anthony Thibodeaux of Lake Charles, Louisiana; his brothers, Harland New and wife, Wanda, of Yoakum, Texas, and Robert New and wife, Rose, of Snyder, Texas; five grandchildren, Lindsey Wilson, Allison Lemon and fiancé, Shay McGee, Austin Collins and wife, Mady Collins, Sara Grace Overholt, and Wynn Overholt; six great-grandchildren, Ava, Jayden, and Aryanna Lackey, Paisley and Beau Buck, and Casey Collins; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Jerry leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will forever carry his love with them.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at a date and time to be announced shortly. The service will be held at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, next door to Combest Family Funeral Home. A reception will follow in the Reception Center of the Venue.

Cremation arrangements were under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
