Laurel Lee York, born on October 15, 1954, in Lubbock, Texas, passed away on August 22, 2026 in Levelland, Texas. Throughout her seventy-one years, Laurel distinguished herself by her devotion to her family and her steadfast commitment to those she loved.

Laurel was the beloved daughter of Billie and Nolan Mathis, both of whom preceded her in death. She cherished the bonds she shared with her siblings, and is survived by her brother Nolan Mathis and wife Katherine, sisters Victoria Long and husband Johnny, Holly Ludwig and husband Wes . She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ramona Mathis-Phillips, whose memory remained close to her heart.

Family was always central in Laurel’s life. She is survived by her son, Lee and wife Veronica York, and daughter Billie York, and seven grandchildren, and  dear cousins, nephews and nieces who brought her immeasurable pride and happiness through the years. Laurel’s legacy endures in the lives she touched with her compassion and strength.

Laurel’s early years in Lubbock shaped her enduring spirit and grounded values, qualities that remained with her throughout her life. In all her endeavors, Laurel embodied integrity and resilience, always willing to offer support and encouragement to family and friends alike.

Her warmth and steadfastness left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Laurel approached life with sincerity, humility, and unwavering generosity, attributes that will be fondly remembered by her loved ones.

Though she is deeply missed, Laurel Lee York’s enduring love and influence will continue to resonate with those who survive her. Her memory is cherished, her life honored, and her spirit will remain a guiding presence within her family and community.
