Obituary

Maria Hernandez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on February 25, 1951, in Laredo, Texas, where the story of her vibrant life began.

Maria’s journey was one marked by warmth, resilience, and a boundless devotion to her loved ones. To know her was to know a steadfast spirit—someone whose love spoke in quiet gestures, whose support uplifted even in the smallest ways, and whose faith quietly guided her through life’s joys and sorrows.

Maria’s heart belonged first and always to her family. Her loving husband, Manuel Hernandez, stood faithfully by her side, and together they built a legacy rooted in strength and compassion. She cherished her children: Steven Romo, Tammy Romo, Carol Castro, and Monica Molina. Maria’s joy multiplied in the form of grandchildren and great-grandchildren—her pride shining whenever she spoke of them, as each carried a piece of her light into the world.

Her affection extended to those she welcomed into the family—Carol Molina, her daughter-in-law, and Jerry Castro, her son-in-law. Maria also held a deep bond with her sister, Cecilia Robles, a tie forged through shared memories, laughter, and unwavering love.

Maria’s life was shaped by the memory and guidance of those who preceded her in death. She held her father, Vicente Arredondo; her mother, Vidala Vitala; and her brothers, Jorge and Vicente Arredondo, close to her heart. Their absence was felt, but their presence continued to inspire her throughout her days.

Throughout her years, Maria was a gentle anchor for her family—her house always a place of comfort and welcome, her advice a source of strength, her embrace a shelter in every storm. Friends and loved ones found in her a confidante who listened deeply and loved without reservation.

As the family gathers to honor Maria’s remarkable life, visitation will be held at Combest Family Funeral Home in Lubbock on July 1, 2026, from 5 p.m.  to 8 p.m., and again on July 2, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass celebrating Maria’s life will take place at 11 a.m. on July 3, 2026, at St Patrick's Catholic Church, 1603 Cherry Ave, Lubbock, Texas.

Maria Hernandez leaves behind a legacy not just of beloved family, but of kindness, generosity, and quiet grace that touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, remembered always for her gentle spirit and the deep love she wove into the fabric of her family’s lives.

This is not a goodbye but I’ll see you later!
