Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Ann Alvarado, who entered into the presence of her Lord on July 14, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 82.

Mary Ann was born on November 2, 1943, in Cotton Center, Texas, to Marcus and Margaret Duran. She devoted her life to her family as a loving homemaker, finding her greatest joy in caring for those she loved. Her home was filled with warmth, laughter, and the comfort that only she could provide.

Mary Ann had a vibrant personality and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She loved shopping, especially trips to Kohl's, dancing, and gathering with family to enjoy a good meal. She also adored her beloved dog, EJ, who the family lovingly referred to as her "favorite child." EJ brought her endless companionship, laughter, and unconditional love. More than anything, Mary Ann treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and all those she held dear, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

A woman of deep Catholic faith, Mary Ann found strength and peace through prayer. She was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where her quiet devotion and trust in God remained a guiding light throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Alvarado, in 2016; her parents, Marcus and Margaret Duran; and her brother, Manuel Duran.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Patricia Alvarado, Catherine Esparza, Yvonne Luera and husband Pedro, Barbara Cantu and husband Pete, and Paul Alvarado and wife Nora; her favorite child, EJ; her grandchildren, Kori Boneta and husband Matt, Joshua Cantu, Jacob Swim and wife Taryn, Gracie Wanjura, Alexander Broderson, and William Esparza; her great-granddaughter, Jordyn Swim; her brothers, John Duran and wife Margaret, and Ronnie Duran; her sister, Mary Ramos; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Venue on Broadway, with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.

Mary Ann will be remembered for the love she so freely gave, the faith that carried her through life's journey, and the joy she found in spending time with her family. Her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
