Obituary

Rachel Bustillos Lopez, age 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. Born on August 17, 1937, Rachel was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, where she spent her life devoted to her faith, family, and community. Rachel married Richard Lopez April 7, 1962 in Lubbock, Tx.

Rachel was a woman of deep Catholic faith and dedicated many years of service to her parish and those around her. She was a proud Guadalupana, a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the Altar Society. She also generously volunteered with Catholic Charities, always seeking ways to help others with kindness and compassion.

Rachel will be remembered for the love she poured into every handmade gift she created for those who touched her life. During the holidays, family, friends, and neighbors looked forward to her delicious homemade cookies and tamales. Alongside her beloved husband, Richard, she also shared fruit baskets throughout the community, bringing joy and generosity to countless people.

Above all, Rachel's greatest legacy is the love she shared with her family and the example of faith, service, and selflessness she lived each day.

She is survived by her son, Javier Lopez, and by Jaimy Torrez, who was like a son to her. Three granddaughters, six great grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Lopez; her parents, Abel and Teresa Bustillos; her sister, Cecilia Rivera; and her cherished daughter, Grace Ann Muniz.

Rachel's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives were blessed by her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith.
