Rene Vecchio, 60, of Abernathy, Texas, passed away on August 22, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him.
Rene was born in Lubbock, Texas, to Tomas Vecchio and Janie Lugo Vecchio. He graduated from Abernathy High and attended college at Panhandle State, where he played college football. Rene later enjoyed a long career with the United States Postal Service, from which he retired.
Rene was a kind and genuine man, often described by those who knew him simply as a “good, solid guy.” He had a way of bringing warmth and humor wherever he went, and his love of music was a big part of who he was. No matter the situation, Rene could make people laugh, brighten the room, and bring a smile to those around him.
He also had a fascination with the night sky. Rene loved stargazing, learning about the planets, and taking photographs of what he saw so he could share those moments with others. And anyone who knew Rene knew about his lifelong devotion to the Denver Broncos. Through every season, he proudly remained a Broncos fan.
Rene shared his life with his loving partner, Vicki Reynolds, who preceded him in death, and his beloved little dog, Abby, who held a very special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tomas Vecchio. He is survived by his mother, Janie Vecchio; sister, Tina Vecchio of Lubbock; his brother, Tony Vecchio of Denver, Colorado, and fiancée, Dede Thompson; his sister, Mary Quiñonez, and her husband, Tony, of Abernathy; his niece, Korina Amos, and her husband, Matthew, of Abernathy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Rene’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who visited him, reached out, offered support, and sent prayers for Rene. Your kindness, friendship, and love meant more than words can express.
A graveside service honoring Rene’s life will be held at 12:00 noon on September 12, 2026, at Abernathy Cemetery in Abernathy, Texas. A Celebration of Life will follow at Abernathy City Hall.
In honor of Rene and his lifelong love for the Denver Broncos, family and friends are encouraged to wear orange or blue to the services.
Rest peacefully, Rene. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed.
