Obituary

James Timothy “Tim” Tippit, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the age of 80. Tim was born on April 24, 1946, in Tahoka to the late John Thomas and Lahrue (Cade) Tippit. He graduated from Tahoka High School in 1964 and went on to attend West Texas A&M in Canyon before joining the United States Army serving three years.

Following his military service, Tim worked in a variety of professions before discovering his true passion in the floral industry. After moving to Lubbock, he became the owner of Flowers Today, where his creativity, dedication, and love for people flourished for many years. His artistic eye and warm personality made lasting impressions on countless customers and friends throughout the community.

A faithful member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, Tim lived a life marked by kindness, hospitality, and genuine compassion. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome. Whether meeting someone for the first time or visiting with lifelong friends, Tim never met a stranger. He was a gifted storyteller whose animated tales and unmistakable laugh could brighten any room. Tim found great joy in cooking and entertaining, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Opening his home to family and friends was one of his greatest pleasures.

For more than 48 years, Tim shared a devoted and loving partnership with Tony Thornton. The couple was married on October 15, 2013, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Tony preceded Tim in death on July 6, 2025.

Those left to cherish Tim's memory include his sister, Gerald-Deane Wood and her husband, Hilton, of Lubbock, two nieces and two nephews along with a host of extended family members and dear friends who loved him deeply.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Lubbock. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Resthaven Memorial Park. A memorial service celebrating Tim's life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.
