Obituary

Tristan Kane Johnston of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the age of 20. He was born May 23, 2006, in Lubbock, Texas. He graduated from Coronado High School in 2024, where one particular class would have a lasting impact on his life. It was in culinary class that Tristan met his future wife, Mayson Miller. What began as a friendship grew over time into something much more. Together, they discovered a shared love of cooking, trying new recipes, and simply enjoying time together in the kitchen.

Tristan excelled in culinary class and took great pride in the food he prepared. He especially enjoyed hearing that others liked what he had made, and a compliment on one of his dishes was sure to bring him a sense of accomplishment. His love for food and cooking became one of the many things he and Mayson enjoyed sharing throughout their relationship.

After nearly six years together, Tristan and Mayson were married on September 9, 2025, in Lubbock. Mayson remembers Tristan as a comforter and a good listener. He was thoughtful with his words, often taking time to consider what he wanted to say before speaking. He had a quiet way of being there for the people he loved, offering comfort simply by listening and allowing them to be heard….he was completely perfect.

Tristan was often described as an “old soul.” He loved older music and was drawn to fashions and styles from generations before his own. At the same time, he enjoyed spending hours playing video games with his brothers, creating the everyday memories that now mean so much to them.

His brother Dylan remembers another side of Tristan with a smile. Whenever Tristan was up to no good, Dylan says he could become “awkwardly theatrical,” making it nearly impossible for him to hide that something was going on. It was one of those uniquely Tristan qualities that could make those who knew him best laugh.

Those left to cherish Tristan’s memory include his wife, Mayson Johnston of Lubbock; mother, Dinelle Terzo and husband Tait of Tahoka; stepmother, Emily Johnston of Waxahachie; in-laws, Jon and Jana Cunningham and their son Troy of Lubbock; siblings, Dylan Johnston of Lubbock, Caydan James of Tahoka, and Kellan Johnston of Waxahachie; grandparents, Tanya Johnston of Lubbock, Bryan and Laura Johnston of Odessa, and Ric Jamison of Waxahachie; and his great-grandparents, Johnny and Nina Silvas of Lubbock.

Tristan was preceded in death by his father, Michael Johnston; siblings, Jordan Wilhite and Lillian Johnston; grandparents, HD and Faith Short, Sheri Jamison.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Venue on Broadway. Services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, October 12, 2026, at West Texas Church with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
