Waltraud "Angel" Schultz-Smallwood, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born on January 6, 1944, in Berlin, Germany, during the height of World War II, a time that would shape her remarkable strength, resilience, and unwavering faith throughout her life.

At just 16 years old, Angel began working as a beautician, a profession she loved and faithfully served in for nearly 50 years. When the time came, she retired to dedicate herself to raising her beloved grandson, embracing that calling with the same love, patience, and devotion that defined every aspect of her life. 

Her life was defined by an extraordinary relationship with the Lord. A longtime prayer warrior, Angel faithfully served at Trinity Church and later at Church on the Rock, where she was honored to serve as a ministry elder. She was known for her steadfast faith, compassionate heart, and willingness to pray for anyone in need. Each morning, long before sunrise, Angel would rise at 3:00 a.m. with a cup of coffee and spend precious time in prayer and communion with the Lord. Her prayer list was long, and she faithfully lifted countless people before God, especially her son, grandson, and Pastors Jackie and Linda White.

Angel had a deep love for her family, her many friends, and her church family. Her gentle spirit, encouraging words, and unwavering faith touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of prayer, love, and devotion that will continue to inspire generations.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Tom P. Smallwood, Jr.; and her daughter, Christiana.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Marcus and grandson, Joshua.

In a beautiful reflection of God's perfect timing, Angel entered her heavenly home on July 4, 2026—the 50th anniversary of becoming a proud citizen of the United States, a milestone she held close to her heart.

A memorial service celebrating Angel's life and unwavering faith will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Church on the Rock – South Campus.
