James Dodson (JD) Coursey, 84, of Lubbock passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022. He was born in Draw, Texas on December 9, 1937 to Woodrow Wilson and Ruby Jewel (Brewer) Coursey. JD graduated from Levelland High School and took classes at Texas Tech University. He married Agnes Oliver in February, 1957 and she preceded him in death in 1962. JD then married Doris Barlow who preceded him in death in 2014. He worked as a Postal Supervisor in Lubbock for 37 years before retiring in 1995. JD loved riding motorcycles, helping others and fixing anything. He was a Christian.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, James Lloyd Coursey and wife Lynn of New Caney, Texas; sister, Judy Kay Buckner of Lubbock; grandson, James Coursey Junior and his wife Marci of Hutto, Texas. He was recently blessed with additional grandchildren, Kris Moore, Kami Pruett and Kassie Smiley and husband Daniel. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Trinity, Emma and Lucas Coursey. Recently added great grandchildren are Paige and Jerrah Moore, Mason and Karsyn Pruett and Maddox Smiley. He is survived by close friend and caregiver Marion Gordey.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Coursey; wife Agnes Oliver Coursey; wife, Doris (Barlow) Coursey and step-son, Rob Wingo.
Visitation for JD will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel from 1-6pm with family receiving friends 4-6pm. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 at 10am at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Children’s Miracle Network or Hospice of Lubbock.
