Video Memorial | Guestbook | Print Obituary

Harold "Rusty" Russwurm was born April 11, 1930 in Independence, Tate County, Mississippi, where he spent his early life working on farms and going to school. In 1950 he enlisted in the US Air Force and served for four years. During this period, he met and married Ramona Sue Fourier on December 7, 1951. To their union was born three children, Rick Russwurm, Pam Pickett, and Roger Lee entombed at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock.

After honorable discharge, he enrolled and graduated from Oklahoma A&M University with a BS degree in Agriculture. His first employment was with the US Department of Agriculture cotton division in Lubbock. After two years he joined a mortgage loan company and then in 1961 he became a loan representative for Connecticut General Life Insurance Company responsible for making loans on farms and ranches in the western part of the United States. He retired after 28 years of service as a 2nd Vice President for the CIGNA Corporation. During his long tenure in the field, he made many friends in the agriculture industry.

Rusty was known for his love for his wife and family. He had an outgoing personality and he entertained everyone with his story-telling. Everyone was his friend, even strangers, often to the embarrassment of any grandchild with him at the time. His smile was always present, causing you to always want to be near him. Rusty had a special way of making people comfortable and if someone needed encouragement, he never hesitated to offer his love, wisdom and strength. His life was lived to follow the footsteps of Jesus and the example he set was an inspiration to everyone.

Rusty was a member of the Church of Christ since the age of 14. He always served others, including as an Elder at Sunset Church of Christ for eight and a half years, and supported many outreach programs in an attempt to bring the lost to Christ. His family and church family meant the world to him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger Lee; and a great-grandson, Tate Hansen Pickett. He leaves behind his loving wife Sue of 67 years; son, Rick and wife Debbie of Dumas; daughter, Pam and husband Keith of Hurst; grandchildren, Clayton Russwurm and wife Leslie of Ransom Canyon, Whitney Weesner and husband Drew of Hurst, Cole Russwurm of Lubbock, and Russ Pickett and wife Emmelie of Ft. Worth; and great-grandchildren, Cameron Russwurm, Avery Russwurm, Dean Russwurm, Finnton Weesner, and Addyson Russwurm. He is also survived by three siblings, Peggy Turman and husband Dave, Yvonne Emmons, Dale Clark; and two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Myers and Carol Jean Duncan and husband Bill.
