J.A. Simpson, of Lubbock passed away Friday, August 3, 2018. He was born June 21, 1943 to Jeptha Alexander and Freeda (Smart) Simpson at the cousin's community on the farm outside of Plainview, Texas. Jay attended Plainview High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served during the Vietnam War. He married Nancy Ann (Brantley) Simpson on February 19, 1966 in Plainview. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he managed gas stations for Bill Burns Oil Company before becoming a Pastor. Jay served as a Pastor for Champion Baptist Church, in Champion, Highland Baptist Church in Sweetwater, FBC in Kress, and FBC in Aiken until he retired in 2010. After retirement, Jay served as a Chaplain for the Area Community Hospice. Jay was a member of Bacon Heights Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Nancy; son, Kevin and wife Jessica Simpson; daughter, Heather Simpson; two grandchildren, Hunter and Megan Simpson all of Lubbock; sisters, Lena Faye and husband Jimmy Hill of Plainview.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lillian Margaret Green, Myrta Bell, and Freed May Vail.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Bacon Heights Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 322 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001 or to Accolade Hospice Lubbock, 5201 Indiana Ave, Lubbock, TX 79413.
