Adrian Lynn Harkey of Odessa passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Dallas, at the age of 76. Born on December 18, 1948, in Lubbock, Texas, he grew up in Abernathy and graduated from Abernathy High School. Adrian proudly joined the United States Navy, where he served his country with honor before returning home to Abernathy. He took on the role of a farm hand and eventually explored various jobs, showcasing his versatility and work ethic. In the mid-1980s, he found his calling as a truck driver, transporting oil starting in Carlsbad, New Mexico, before settling in Odessa in 1989. He hauled approximately 4.5 million barrels of oil over his lifetime. His unwavering commitment to hard work not only provided for his family but also created a secure and loving environment for his children.
Adrian's love for his family was evident in everything he did. He was a devoted Christian man and gave regularly to his church, and he loved participating in praise and worship. He was also the type of father who never missed a school or sporting event for his children, always present to cheer them on. Whether it was teaching them how to ride their bikes or ensuring they had every opportunity to succeed, his dedication as a constant financial provider reflected his deep love and support. Those who knew him will remember his loving and sweet personality, accompanied by a great smile that could light up any room. He had a unique way of connecting with people, often ending any conversation with an “Appreciate you,” a testament to his caring nature. Adrian was also an avid Texas Tech fan and Odessa Permian fan, never missing a game. His passion for the mojo football team was evident as he proudly held season tickets for years, complete with his own seat and mojo outfit, cheering energetically for his beloved team.
Adrian leaves behind his children, Tisha Sutton of Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts, Matthew Harkey, Keith Harkey, and Gracie Harkey of Odessa, and Lizzie Harkey of Colorado City. He is also survived by his siblings, Ron Harkey and wife Donita, Brent Harkey and wife Susan, and Eric Harkey and wife Linda, along with ten adoring grandchildren who were the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James and Martha Harkey.
A memorial service to honor Adrian's life will take place at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway in Lubbock.
