Hermeigh

Alfreda Bartkow, a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2026. Born on February 1, 1931, in Poland, her early life was marked by the upheavals of war-torn Europe. Yet, through the steadfast commitment of her father, a United States citizen, the family found refuge and new beginnings in New York, where Alfreda’s journey toward an extraordinary life commenced. Throughout her career, Alfreda worked in the insurance industry which lead her to Florida, where she chose to make her home for many years, officially becoming a resident of the state in 1978. Later in life, motivated by the desire to be near loved ones, she relocated to Texas in 2012. There, she flourished on the family ranch, finding joy in the company of animals and embracing fully the abundance that life offered.

Alfreda was a proud custodian of her cultural heritage. She embraced her Polish roots with profound respect and passion, assuming the esteemed role of President of the Polish National Alliance in 1988, an accomplishment she regarded with great pride, symbolizing her dedication to community and identity.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Regina Ferguson of Hermleigh; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who continue to cherish her memory; as well as several nieces and nephews. Alfreda was preceded in death by her parents, John and Wincentina Winter; son, John Andrew Bartkow; two brothers, Danny Winter and Eddie Winter; two granddaughters, Kenyette Halasz and Michele Nichole Desposito; two nephews, and a son-in-law, Richard Ferguson.

A graveside service is planned for 11:00 am, Monday, June 8, 2026, at Petersburg Cemetery in Petersburg, Texas.
