Allene Castro

Allene Pena Castro, 76, of Lubbock, went to be with her beloved husband, and Lord and Savior on Monday, March 1, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Allene was born on May 22, 1945, in Stamford (Jones County), Texas to the late Dionisio Pena and Trinidad (Ornelas) Pena.

Allene attended school in Aspermont, graduating from Aspermont High School in 1964. Following graduation from high school, she worked for Hickman's Restaurant in Aspermont for approximately four years. She attended Draughn's Business College and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Accounting.

She met Joe Castro, Jr., the love of her life and they were married on June 20, 1970, in Spur, Texas. Mr. Castro preceded her in death on January 10, 2020.

Allene loved her family but ruled the family with stern faith and guidance. She was a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, and enjoyed coaching basketball, baking cakes for her family and friends, sewing and delved in arts and crafts. As tender and loving grandmother, Allene thoroughly enjoyed her grandkids soccer, football, basketball games and track meet's. She worked at J. C. Penney, Dillard's and Beall's as a sales associate and then retired in approximately 2000 after being a department manager for the Wal-Mart Supercenter at South Quaker and Loop 289 for 14 years. Allene was a faithful member of Christ the King Cathedral Catholic Church.

Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory include one son, Joe Castro, III, of Lubbock; two daughters, Amanda Perez and husband Jason of Lubbock and Amy Castro of Austin; two brothers, James Pena and his wife Linda of Aspermont and Chris Pena and his wife Luisa of Hamlin; four grandchildren, X-Zavian, Zilliah, Zaybria and Joe Castro, IV; one great-granddaughter, Valencia Allene. Allene was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings Jesse Pena, Juanita Reed, Ann Ledesma, John Pena, Alice Pena, Tiodulo Pena, Dee Pena, Sr., and Mike Pena.

Visitation for Allene will be from 1 PM to 8 PM on Sunday, March 6, 2022, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel, with Recitation of the Rosary at 6 PM. Mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday, March 7, 2022, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Father Jim McCartney will lead the mass as Celebrant. Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Castro III, X-Zavian Castro, Joe Castro IV, Dee Pena, Jr., Jeff Hernandez and Chris Pena.

Honorary pallbearers will be Zilliah Castro, Alex Romero and Joe Hernandez.
