Alvino Perez Lopez

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alvino Perez Lopez, who left this world on June 26, 2026, in Lubbock, TX, at the age of 79. Born on September 30, 1946, to Jesus Maria Lopez and Anita Perez Lopez, Alvino's life was one marked by dedication to family, community, and service.

A proud graduate of Lubbock High School in 1965, Alvino broke new ground as the first in his family to complete high school and later earn a bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish from Texas Tech University in 1982. Following his education, Alvino served honorably in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS New Jersey during the Vietnam War-a testament to his commitment to his country.

Throughout his life, Alvino was a devoted follower of Texas Tech athletics and an ardent fan of the Dallas Cowboys. His passion for baseball was unmatched; he could engage anyone in insightful discussions about the intricacies of the game.

Professionally, Alvino spent over three decades in public service. He worked as the director of a Head Start Program in Rall's, TX, for the Texas Migrant Council, then contributed his talents to Texas Tech University's Institute of Child and Family Studies. He capped his distinguished career with 20 years in senior management at the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, where he made a profound impact on the communities he served.

Alvino was not just a leader but also a gifted musician. As a member of the band Los Premiers, he earned his place on the Lubbock Walk of Fame, sharing his love of music with many. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, his faith was a cornerstone of his life.

Family was Alvino's greatest pride. His devotion to his children, Christopher Lopez and Amanda Clark, as well as his six grandchildren, defined his legacy. He was the epitome of a loving grandfather, ensuring that laughter and support were always present.

Alvino's heart was forever linked to his late wife, Connie Garcia Lopez, whom he married on December 9, 1967. They shared 43 beautiful years together until her passing on January 14, 2011-now, they are reunited in spirit.

He is survived by his children, Christopher Lopez and Amanda Clark, sisters Alicia Torres and Raquel Mercado, and five beloved grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Amy Lopez, his parents, brother, Rogelio Lopez, sister, Anita Badillo, brother, Ramiro Lopez, brother, Pete Lopez, brother Antonio Lopez, brother, Rueben Lopez and brother Raymond Lopez.

A viewing for Alvino will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Venue on Broadway, located at 2202 Broadway, Lubbock, TX 79401.  The Rosary will be held after the viewing at 7 PM. 

A Funeral Mass will follow on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 10 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

As we gather together to honor his life, we remember Alvino Perez Lopez as a devoted family man, a servant to his community, and a lover of music and sports, whose spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
