America Herbert

America Guadalupe Herbert, 79, of Abernathy, TX passed away, with her family by her side on July 15, 2024. She was born on February 28, 1945, in McAllen, TX to Jose O. Perez and Julia Sanchez.

America married Arthur (Art) Herbert on June 22nd, 1991, in Hidalgo, TX. They resided in La Rosita, TX, where they called home for 9 years. They loved each other dearly until the passing of Art.

America (grandma Keka) was strong, loving, generous and funny. Every day she had her nails done, lipstick on, and coffee ready. Her love of dancing left many memories for her nieces and can be seen in pictures with her sisters. She enjoyed cooking meals for family and friends ensuring that everyone was well fed. She taught her grandchildren how to cook and her great-grandchildren how to sing her favorite songs. Gardening was another hobby she enjoyed sharing. America was a prayer warrior and instilled the faith of knowing her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into the hearts of everyone. She was always encouraging others even in her final days leaving a lasting imprint in many lives.

America is survived by her children, Miguel Olivarez of Abernathy,TX, and Belinda (Bill) Soto of Abernathy, TX; grandchildren, Christina (Jaime) Gonzalez, Melissa (Ricardo) Flores, Justin Soto, Victor (Janie) Villegas, and Victoria Villegas; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joel (Martha) Perez, Rolando Perez, Mike Perez, Juan Perez, Jose Valera, and Pat Cole.

She is preceded in death by her father, Jose O. Perez; mother, Julia Sanchez; husband, Arthur Herbert; daughter, Lisa Villegas; brother, Jose Perez Jr.; and sisters, Yolanda Vecchio and Diane Allen.

A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18th, 2024, at the Combest Family Memorial Chapel from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. 

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Combest Family Memorial Chapel at 10:00 a.m. 

Burial to immediately follow at Abernathy Cemetery.
