Aniseto M. Acosta, “Uncle Joe” or “Quennie”, as he became known to his family, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28th, 2024 at the age of 91. He was a good, hard-working man, who provided for his family. A man of faith who always had a smile. He enjoyed watching sports and collecting various team caps. He especially loved watching football.
Aniseto was born on April 17, 1933 to Pedro and Encarnacion Acosta. He was born in an area called Charro, which is near present-day Navasota, TX.
Like many of his family, who migrated from Mexico, Aniseto worked on the farmlands and fields. He moved to O’Donnell, TX in his early years and was surrounded by his brothers and sisters. They would work in the fields seasonally and migrate through the season from Texas to Michigan.
In the late 1970’s he and his wife decided to stay in Michigan. He accepted a position as supervisor, then later manager for a local produce warehouse. His faith in God guided him to a calling of serving as a Catholic Deacon. He spent the rest of his working years there in Grant, Michigan, and retired in 2001. They decided to move back to Lubbock, TX to be closer to his family and grandchildren.
Aniseto is preceded in death by his devoted wife and best friend of 62 years, Guadalupe Ortiz Acosta; sisters, Natividad Reyna and Guadalupe Sierra; brothers, Edemencio, Julian, and Alejandro Acosta.
He is survived by sisters Andrea Garcia (Frisco, TX) and Minerva Villareal (Lubbock, TX), three children Joe, Tony, and Rosa; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and homecare health workers who looked after him. The family would also like to thank his niece, Mary Salazar, for taking care of him for the last 9 years after the passing of his wife.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 5:00-7:00p.m. with the Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00p.m. at the Combest Family Memorial Chapel.
