Balford Bluhm, 92, of Lubbock, passed away on Sunday morning, January 29, 2023. Balford was born on November 18, 1930, in Brownfield, Terry County, Texas, to the late Gabe Vernon Bluhm and Annie Belle Rowland.
He attended Cisco High School, graduating with the senior class of 1949. Following graduation, he attended Cisco Junior College. Balford served in the United States Army and National Guard, in France during the Korean War, before he was honorably discharged from serving his country.
He met the love of his life, Georgia Oliver, and they were united in marriage on February 6, 1954, in Anton, Texas.
Balford was a mechanic, and owned Bluhm Auto and Electric in Lubbock for more than 60 years. He loved to hunt, build race cars, collect coins and deer figurines. He was brought up in the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia; one daughter, Gwen Akeroyd of Lubbock; one son, Curtis Bluhm and his wife Dara of Lubbock; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Donald, Kennith and Bobby Bluhm; one brother, Alford Bluhm and one sister, Authella “Pokey” Davis.
Visitation for Balford will begin at 12 PM on Thursday, February 2, 2023, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM on Thursday, February 2, 2023, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Elizabeth Abraham, with Hospice of Lubbock, will be the officiant. Final rites and interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Hospice of Lubbock, 3702 21st Street, Lubbock, TX 79410.
