Benton A. Kastman, 65, of Ransom Canyon, Texas, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025.
Benton Kastman, born February 18, 1960, in Lubbock, Texas, was the cherished son of Jack and Marjorie Cone Kastman. Benton grew up in a household rooted in community service, imbued with the values and teachings of his devoted family. His early years in Lubbock were filled with family gatherings, stories of adventure, and the kind of warm, unbreakable bonds that shaped the compassionate man he became. A proud graduate of West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Benton carried with him the strong work ethic and curiosity for life that marked his college years.
Benton’s love of travel began early, accompanying his grandmother on trips that sparked a lifelong passion for exploring the world. From that young age, he caught the “travel bug” and never stopped seeking out new places, people, and experiences. A true traveler at heart, Benton had a goal of visiting more countries than his grandmother, Fern Cone, and he delighted in sharing photos and stories from his adventures. He was just as passionate about traveling across the United States, often choosing to drive so he could enjoy every mile along the way. Benton happily volunteered as the family chauffeur on trips, making the journey as memorable as the destination. Some of his happiest travel memories were spent in Red Rock Canyon, Nevada, a favorite stop whenever visiting his brother and sister-in-law.
Benton dedicated much of his professional life to managing his family’s self-storage business, where he was known for handling every aspect with honesty and integrity. He later founded Benton Kastman Investments, continuing his commitment to serving others through fair and thoughtful business practices. Beyond his work, Benton was deeply involved in his community. He served for many years with the South Plains Food Bank and was a long-standing member of the Lubbock Rotary Club. Benton also proudly participated in the local and national Beekeeping Associations, sharing his passion for pollinators and environmental stewardship. Benton adored his bees and took great pride in caring for them. He never arrived anywhere empty-handed, he always brought along a jar of his honey as a gift, a sweet gesture everyone treasured. What we would all do for just one more jar!
Benton never met a stranger. He had a gift for making friends everywhere he went, leaving an impression on people from all walks of life. Even the staff at BMW, where he had planned an upcoming driving experience, reached out after hearing of his passing, expressing that they would like to attend his service to pay their respects to how warmly Benton connected with everyone he met.
He also loved to play poker, especially during his trips to Las Vegas, and his sharp wit made him a favorite at any table. His sense of humor was unmatched—he always knew the right joke for the right person, lightening the mood when times were hard or making gatherings even more joyful. Above all, Benton loved his family. Whether sharing travel stories, laughing together, or lending a helping hand, he brought people closer with his kindness, loyalty, and genuine heart.
Benton will always be remembered for his big smile, his humor, and the way he made everyone around him feel at ease. Though his travels on earth have ended, Benton’s journey has only just begun in heaven, and we know he is smiling, ready to share new stories when we see him again.
He leaves behind a family who adored him: his siblings, Anna Kastman Jenkin, Melonie Kastman, Brandon Kastman, and Angela Kastman Corr; his sister-in-law, Mei Kastman; and his nieces and nephews, who will forever treasure their Uncle Benton—Billy Jenkin, Chris Jenkin, Eric Jenkin, Christian Corr, Camille Corr, and Ruby Rose Skotchdopole. He joins in heaven his parents, Jack and Marjorie Cone Kastman, and his brother, Bryan Kastman, who were waiting to welcome him home.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in Combest Family Funeral Homes Venue on Broadway, next door to the funeral home at 2202 Broadway. Services are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
