Betty Sue Hendricks Duckworth Wheeler, 93, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 7, 2025. She was born on July 16, 1932, in Anna, Collin County, Texas to the late B. B. Hendricks and Sue (Stevens) Hendricks. She was raised in the Anna area by her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stephenson.
She attended schools in Farmersville and graduated from Farmersville High School in 1949. She excelled in academics, pep squad and choir. Furthering her education, she attended Texas Women’s College in Denton.

During their marriage, Leland’s career with JC Penney’s transferred them 16 times throughout Texas and New Mexico overseeing the opening of new stores. Betty loved to travel and enjoyed each location they lived, where she enjoyed her favorite hobby of gardening, often winning the yard of the month. They both had a love of the mountains and had a vacation home in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Betty also enjoyed country and western music, gospel music and loved to dance.
Betty married J. F. “Jeff” Wheeler on March 15, 2002, in Lubbock, where they spent 23 years together until her passing. They were both members of First Baptist Church and the Downtown Bible Class. They had a wonderful life together, traveling until Betty’s illness.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her loving husband, J. F. “Jeff” Wheeler of Lubbock; two stepdaughters: Cindy Kay Becker of Lubbock and Jodi Mathis of Plano; and several nieces and one nephew. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and first husband.
