Billie D. Northcut was born February 8, 1933, in Emory, Texas to John Dero and Lenah Beatrice Taylor Northcut.  He passed away on April 7, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 91 years old.

Billie was the oldest of four children and grew up in Dallas where he attended school and graduated from Sunset High School in 1951.  He married Billie Frances Coalson in Dallas on July 25, 1952, and together they shared almost 69 years of marriage. They lived in El Paso, Texas while Bill was in the Army for two years.  He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army.   Bill and Billie lived in multiple places in Texas.  They moved back to the Dallas area where he continued an accounting career. He was a father to 3 children, two girls and a boy.  In 1969 they moved to Abilene while Bill was pursuing an accounting career, working for Automation Industry, and raising their family for the most part in Abilene. They later moved to Big Spring, Texas to finish raising their son, while continuing his accounting career at Gamco Industries until 1983.  They moved to Alpine, Texas where he completed his Bachelor’s degree at Sul Ross University and began working at the Physical Plant for the University overseeing maintenance for the campus.  Upon his retirement in 1996, Bill and Billie moved to Abernathy, Texas to be closer to family and grandchildren.  Bill and Billie were members of Abernathy First Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He also worked part time at Resthaven Funeral Home. In April 2021, he began his decline, having to move to nursing home care.   He enjoyed painting, making jewelry and relaxing during retirement.

Billie was preceded in death by his wife Billie F. Coalson Northcut, his parents John Dero and Lenah Beatrice Taylor Northcut; a sister, Mary Beth Sooter, and a son-in-law, Marvin Daniel Price.

Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters: Melinda Carol Northcut Steele and husband Don, and Brenda Kay Northcut Price; one son, William Dean Northcut and wife Deana; 7 grandchildren: James Daniel Steele and wife Mindy, Jeffrey Paul Steele and wife Melody, Patricia Shannon Wordell and partner Cari Davis, Shawna Lea Lewis, Dustin Dean Hendon and wife Bobbie, Brandon Eric Northcut and wife Cate, and Lindsay Michelle Northcut and fiancé Justin Hanson; one great-grandson, Luke Anthony Northcut; one step great-granddaughter, Avery; one brother, John D. Northcut and wife Jocelyne; one sister, Joe Ann Northcut McIver, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Combest Family Memorial Chapel, 2210 Broadway in Lubbock, from 6 to 7 PM.  Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 10:30 AM in the Abernathy Cemetery, Abernathy, Texas.  Mark Meurer will lead the service at the graveside.  Services are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.

Pallbearer’s will be James Steele, Dustin Hendon, Brandon Northcut, Tom Sooter, Jerry Coalson and Justin Hanson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Patricia Wordell, Shawna Lewis and Lindsay Northcut.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Lubbock Meals on Wheels, 2304 34th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79411.
